Internet Fasting

I'll be away for a business trip for about 20 days and I intend to experiment "Internet Fasting" during this time, i.e. no access to internet. No updation of my blog, except 2 or 3 scheduled posts, no particpation in forums, not social sites, no entrecard etc etc. Let us see how it is going to affect me and the site's health. I expect a major drop in Alexa traffic ranking. So let it be. But my major challenge would be to avoid internet.

Improving Alexa Ranking – Getting Within Top 1M Sites

This is an importatnt moment for me.

On 20 Oct, I posted the article Alexa Ranking - Getting Within 1.5M Top Sites , explaining how my blog traffic rank has improved from 23M to 1.4 M in little over 4 months. Towards the end of that post, I mentioned that I would like to come within 1M Alexa. At that point, I thought that getting from 23M plus to within 1.5M is easier than getting from 1.5M to within 1M, as competition here is tough. So I set a deadline of 31 Dec 08 to get in top 1M ranked site. Little I knew that I’ll achieve this target within 11 days, instead of expected 11 weeks. I was within top 1M on 28 Oct08. And as you can see at the bottom of sidebar, todaya I am ranked 986, 511.

One again I must sya that I follow Alexa ranking just for the sake of fun. The real aim of blogging is to express myself and to share with others the good things and the good ideas that I have experienced and learnt.

Courage - What Really Is It?

I intended to write an article on courage, everyday courage. So I surfed the web to find how courage is defined and I found some great quotes. Some of these even made me to cry. Today, I want to share these great courage quotes with you.

1. Courage is reckoned the greatest of all virtues; because, unless a man has that virtue, he has no security for preserving any other. Samuel Johnson
2. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. Ambrose Redmoon
3. Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen. Winston Churchill
4. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow. Mary Anne Radmacher
5. It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare. Mark Twain
6. People are made of flesh and blood and a miracle fibre called courage. Mignon McLaughlin
7. Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear. Except a creature be part coward it is not a compliment to say it is brave. Mark Twain
8. Courage is being afraid but going on anyhow. Dan Rather
9. Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared. Edward Vernon Rickenbacker
10. Bravery is being the only one who knows you're afraid. Franklin P. Jones
11. One man with courage makes a majority. Andrew Jackson
12. Courage is the power to let go of the familiar. Raymond Lindquist
13. True courage is not the brutal force of vulgar heroes, but the firm resolve of virtue and reason. Alfred North Whitehead
14. To live with fear and not be afraid is the final test of maturity. Edward Weeks
15. For without belittling the courage with which men have died, we should not forget those acts of courage with which men have lived. John F. Kennedy
16. Courage is... the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared. David Ben-Gurion
17. A timid person is frightened before a danger, a coward during the time, and a courageous person afterward. Jean Paul Richter
18. Have the courage to live. Anyone can die. Robert Cody
19. Courage is knowing what not to fear. Plato
20. Courage is a kind of salvation. Plato
21. Courage is never to let your actions be influenced by your fears. Arthur Koestler
22. A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer. Ralph Waldo Emerson
23. Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die. G.K. Chesterton
24. In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot. Mark Twain
25. I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. Harper Lee
